Mother

Even though it isn't Mother's Day until May over in Australia it is Mother's Day today in the UK, so my thoughts are with my mother, far away on the other side of the globe to me.  If there's one thing I miss more than the sun living in the UK it is my family, especially my mother.

I've already written about how wonderful a woman my mother is on this blog before.  Here she is dressed up for an evening event in Penang wearing a black lace Karen Millen dress I gave her for Christmas year before last.  My mother never had a lot of money to spend on clothing either when she was growing up or when I was growing up as she was a full time Mum.  So I always try to buy her nice clothing for her Christmas and birthday presents.

Too old for lace at sixty seven?  I think not!! Here is another picture from an old post of her in a grey satin and lace dress also by Karen Millen.

Happy Mother's Day Mum - love you!  Don't let anyone ever tell you you're too old to be dressing up in gorgeous dresses.

And if you're a mother out there a big Happy Mother's Day to you too.

Taking a back seat this week to show off my mother on Visible Monday over at Not Yet Dead Style.

  3. I was blown away by the picture at Visible Monday, thinking how lady-like you looked in the dress, only to find out when I came to visit that it's your mom! She's fabulous!! The dress is beautiful on her. I'm sure when she wears the lovely things you've given her, she feels wrapped in love, and thus all the more beautiful. It shines in both of you.

  7. What a beautiful dress! And at what good shape your mom is at 67! My mom is also of same age and I try to buy nice clothes for her when there is opportunity.

  8. Like mother, like daughter when it comes to the finer things in life from the likes of these photos.

  9. Your mother wears both of these dresses so beautifully. As blessed as you are to have her, she is also blessed to have a daughter who sees her beauty inside and out.

I did not realize that it was Mother's Day in the UK. My mother was born in Yorkshire and never gave up her British citizenship, even though she lived here in the States for 50 years. She passed away 6 years ago, but I can still wish her a happy Mother's Day in my heart, right?

  14. Beautiful dresses and they look gorgeous on your mum. Karen Millen is a great designer.
I love it how you spoil your mother!

Thank you so much for your lovely comment on my blog.
I also go for accessories when I am not sure about the whole theme like neon on one of my previous posts.

I went through your blog and really like it. Especially your post on the (bikini) fashion policy. Not only you look stunning in that bikini but also what you said about diversity.
This is why I started my blog targeted at "mature" women. I turned 50 recently and only found blogs for young women - no matter how great they are but I couldn't really connect to a lot of them. My daughter is 18 and she has her own blog, we share clothes and there is a lot of inspiration actually in both directions but I thought I would like to start my own thing ;-)

    Have a wonderful day!

  16. Your mother looks wonderful - so stylish! It's lovely you shared her. I can relate as I spent more than a decade living thousands of miles away from mine and it was hard for us both since my kids were tiny then.

  20. I remember well the pics taken of your beautiful mum at the wedding wearing that incredible frock!! It's hard being so far away from family when everyone else is getting all wired up for big celebrations. You are such a kind and wonderful daughter to buy your mama such beautiful and special gifts, which I just know she would treasure - "oh yes, my lovely daughter in London bought this for me, she has such wonderful taste" xoxoxox

  21. Your mother looks so beautiful ... you are a good daughter. Better than mine, certainly, if you buy clothes for your mom! (Sort of kidding. Urk. Never mind, my own taste is better.)
Lace is still command central for us old ladies, even if it is being co-opted by the younglings. You must have inherited your spectacular looks from your mother. Tell her thank you, from all of us!
All silliness aside, lovely pics of your gorgeous mum.

  23. Your mom looks gorgeous. How old did you say she was? Looks like she must be a dancer too, defying age! Anyway, your taste in lace looks fabulous on her too.

  25. This is a wonderful tribute to your lovely mum. She looks fabulous in both those dresses. And I don't think you can ever be too old to wear what you want.
